Search for Multiple Hashtags at Once
Let’s say we want to search for #usa and #europe in one go on Twitter. For this the search syntax would be: #”usa” OR #”europe” Here the keyword OR is an operator that tells the Twitter Search to look for both the tags. In this case, however, only those tweets would be listed where any one of the hashtags has been used.
Search for Tweets Containing Multiple Hashtags
If you want to get tweets which are tagged with more than one hashtags, then you can use the AND search operator: #”usa” AND #”europe” Only those tweets would be listed that would contain both the above hashtags.
Search for Exact Phrase
ALSO READ: Google Advanced Search Sometimes we want to see only those tweets that contain an exact phrase (multiple words in a particular sequence). For example, we may be looking for oil price hike For this just use the double quotation marks to enclose the phrase: “oil price hike”
Use Twitter Advanced Search
Twitter has provided an advanced search tool where you can easily make the above mentioned and even more searches. Apart from the above, you can also do the following:
Exclude Words from Search
Sometimes you want to search for something but you don’t want certain words to be there in the tweets. For example, you want to search for “politics” but you’re not interested in the politics of USA. With this option you can search for politics and exclude the word USA.
Search for Tweets in a Particular Language
This option allows you to specify one language and Twitter will show tweets written only in that language. If you’re looking for language or region specific tweets, this option helps in creating a much narrower resultset.
Search Tweets Made by Certain People
If you’re interested in the tweets of one or more specific persons, use this option. This helps you in focusing your search only on specific Twitter account(s).
Search for Tweets Made Between Specific Dates
This option helps you in searching for tweets that were made between two dates.
Mixing of Search Options for Complex Queries
In the advanced search you can provide values for many options to ask complex questions. For example, you may want to search for tweets mentioning oil price between 01 January 2015 to 31 July 2015 but you’re not interested in USA. Such questions can be easily answered by Twitter search. We hope that this article gave you insights in the Twitter search options and now you’ll be able to search for tweets in a smarter way.
